1 year ago I created my website and with it, posted my first blog post. (It was about the Advent time and until this day it's my favorite blog post I've ever published.)
Why I decided to write a blog. Ever since I can remember I wrote my thoughts down and at some point, I thought - why not sharing them? While creating the website I was thinking what is it actually that I want to make, and illustration was very high on the list. Therefore the combination of writing and illustrating seemed perfect for me back then. I like sharing small bits and pieces of my life and that gave me a huge motivation to illustrate.
Where it got me. At some point posting blogs became a very personal thing for me. Within time my expectations overtook my abilities. Posting a text with an illustration each and every week next to a full time job became overwhelming and in some weeks simply impossible due to the limited time I got to make them. After everyone telling me, I'm being too hard on myself, I realised, that I have to learn how to let go off the stress I created for myself.
Why I decided to post less blog posts. There is only so much time. There are many blogposts that never saw the day light, just because I wasn't sure if it's right to put them up or because I didn't have time for it. For me it was always important to post the best blogpost I can make, therefore if I ran out of time to finish or polish some of them, I preferred to leave them out. Making anything creative is a long process, which most people don't realise. After collecting tons of ideas for new projects, which were popping up in my head randomly throughout the year, I usually postponed them, because if I had time for personal creative work, I used it for blogging. Now that I learned how much time is required, I decided to shift my priority to other projects.
Now. Nowadays I treat blogging as a nice addition to my website, which is mostly supposed to focus on presenting my illustrations and motion projects. Whenever I get inspired to write or find the right time for it, I will do it. I want blogging to be a nice activity, which is filling my spare time, not a stress factor. There are enough of them in life!
