One of my winter destinations this winter was a lovely and unique place in the middle of the Alps - Lech in Austria. The day, when I arrived was the first day this year, when these mountains were covered by snow. Additionally to it all of the Christmas decorations where still there, which made the whole scenery look magical.
The village Lech is astounding in many ways. It is located in a canyon surrounded by huge mountains, which beauty takes the breath away. Most of the buildings, including the new ones are build out of wood in a typical mountain-area style. It is definitely the most exclusive place in Austria, that I know of. You get there the best skiing and snowboarding equipment, but also fashionable products, like eg. jewelry. A name, which you can see all over the place is Strolz - a local family store chain, where you can get winter sports articles, clothing and even furniture.
Something, that you won’t find in this luxurious area is fast food. Therefore there is a possibility to eat sushi in a newly built hut in app. 2000m above the sea level… I however stayed with the traditional Austrian cuisine from Alps - Käsespätzle, which are nothing else but noodles with melted cheese. When it comes to eating in restaurants, it is not possible to get a table without a reservation.
The prices are way over the top, but the unforgettable landscape is what makes it worth going there at least for a couple of days.
